The Rowlett Business Spotlight Podcast with David Elam
Real conversations with the people running businesses here in Rowlett and around Lake Ray Hubbard. Their story, what is actually working, and what they learned the hard way.
This is not a guru podcast
This is not theory, and it is definitely not another place where people pretend everything is perfect.
It is a local show, for real business owners, about what it actually takes to build something here in Rowlett. The wins, the mistakes, the stress, the breakthroughs. All of it.
Running a business can feel pretty lonely. Most owners are out here guessing, trying things, hoping something works, without real feedback or honest conversation. The goal of this show is simple: bring together the people in this city who are actually doing it, and let them talk.
And selfishly, I am doing this because I want to meet more people like you.
You should be on this show if
- You own a business in Rowlett or the surrounding Lake Ray Hubbard area
- You have real customers and you take pride in the work
- You are willing to be honest about the hard parts, not just the highlight reel
- You want more people in this community to know who you are
Here is exactly what happens
Most people say yes once they realize how little is being asked of them.
- 1
You apply and pick a time
Two minutes. Tell me about your business and grab a slot that works.

I send you the questions
All six of them, ahead of time. Nothing to write or rehearse, they are just there so you are not caught off guard.

We talk for 20 to 30 minutes
You click a link in your browser. No app to install. If something does not come out right, we redo it.
- 4
I handle everything else
Editing, show notes, artwork, publishing, and promotion. You do not touch any of it.
- 5
Your episode goes live
I send you the link, the clips, and a graphic you can post. Then I share it across the community.
You get these before we record
No trick questions, no gotchas. This is the whole interview.
- 1. The problem
What has changed about your industry over the last few years, and what are the biggest problems for other people doing what you do?
- 2. The hard part
What is the hardest part about running your business that most people never see?
- 3. What helped
What people or systems have helped you the most in your business journey?
- 4. Lessons learned
If you could start over, what would you do differently? Any mistakes or lessons worth passing on?
- 5. Encouragement
What is one piece of advice or encouragement you would give another business owner here in Rowlett?
- 6. Your turn to promote
What do you do, and how can people connect with you? Tell us about your products and services.
That last one is not a throwaway. You get to talk about what you sell and how people can reach you, for as long as you want.
You keep everything we make

Frequently asked
How long does the interview take?
About 30 minutes total. The conversation itself usually runs 20 to 30 minutes, and we spend a few minutes at the start getting comfortable.
Do I need to prepare anything?
No. I send you the six questions ahead of time so you can think them over, but there is nothing to write, rehearse, or bring. Most guests say it feels like grabbing coffee.
Does it cost anything to be a guest?
No. There is no cost to appear on the show and nothing to buy. I started this because I wanted to meet more business owners here in Rowlett.
Is this recorded in person or remotely?
Remotely for now. You get a link, you click it, and it records in your browser. No app to download and no software to install. Just find a quiet room with decent light.
What if I mess up or say something wrong?
We just redo it. This is recorded, not live, so nothing is permanent. If a question does not land or you want another run at an answer, we take it again.
Do I get a copy of the recording?
Yes. You get the full episode and the short clips, and you are free to post them anywhere you like.
Want your business featured on the show?
If you own a business in Rowlett or anywhere around Lake Ray Hubbard, this is an open invitation. It takes about 30 minutes, you do not need to prepare anything, and I send you the questions ahead of time.
